The 4-Man Team Derby is open to the first 16 teams to sign up. $300 entry per team.
The 80’s & Newer heat is open to the first 20 Drivers to sign up. $75 entry per car.
Please be sure to carefully read and understand the build rules. If you have any questions about the rules, call Kelly Hoerner 701-400-6827 or Ken 701-391-6211.
Driver’s meeting is mandatory for all team members.
Each team will have a Team Captain. Team Captains will be responsible for:
1. Team registration.
2. Relaying new information to team members.
3. Draw for heats.
The entire team must go through inspection at the same time.
- Only the team drivers and cars are permitted in the inspection area during their team’s inspection. No pit members or other team drivers and/or spectators are allowed in the inspection area. This will be enforced!
Teams will consist of 4 cars. Teams may run 2 old iron and 2 new iron cars. But only have one wagon per team. You must have 2 new iron cars (77+ newer Fullsize GM, 79+ newer FoMoCo, 80+ newer Mopar), per team, but can have more. No Chrysler Imperials, Imperial sub-frame swapping, or suicide-door Lincolns.
Teams will receive a confirmation letter after they register – notifying them of what color they are and any other information.

Rules and Regulations
General
1. A $75.00 entry fee shall be paid by each driver, or $300 per 4-car team (allows only driver into pits).
2. Deadline to register for the Team Event May 20, 2011.
3. This year every pit-man and anyone else wanting into the pits will have to pay (no passes with driver or car).
4. All cars must be equipped with seat belts for driver.
5. No pickups, (except for special pickup event), truck, ambulances, hearses, sports cars, motorcycles, jeeps, or convertibles will be eligible to run.
6. One station wagon per team. No 73 or older Imperials, no Imperial sub-frames, and no 60’s Lincolns allowed. No sub-frame swapping and no sedagons (wagons made into sedans).
7. Only driver shall be allowed in arena after the derby has started.
8. All drivers must remain in their car after their car is eliminated until contest is over.
9. It is illegal to hit driver’s door. Anyone doing so will be called out. Also, no blocking with the door.
10. All contestants must sign waiver before participating in the derby.
11. After second fire, car is eliminated.
12. Two-minute contact rule. Any car not moving and making contact for two minutes will be eliminated.
13. No sandbagging or holding! You will be disqualified.
14. Top Three teams WILL be re-inspected before any prize money is handed out.
15. Only the last two cars running will be pulled apart to determine places.
16. Any controversies will be taken up at the drivers meeting.
17. Judges decisions are final!
18. No hot-rodding in the pits. Keep it at idle.
19. Gates open at 10:00 a.m. ALL CARS MUST BE INSPECTED BY 2:00 P.M. SO GET HERE EARLY!!
20. Pit meeting at 2:00 p.m.
21. Derby starts at 3:00 p.m.
22. Any cars not inspected by 2:00, or if the cars do not pass inspection, will forego their entry fee and not get to participate. BE EARLY!
Car Preparation
1. All glass must be removed from the car. No exceptions.
2. Original gas tank must be removed. Replacement tank cannot be plastic. You must use a metal boat tank or well made fuel cell and it must be secured (no tarp straps).
3. Exhaust system must be removed and modified.
4. All loose chrome, plastic, fiberglass header, door handles, door locks, and wheel weights must be removed. Basically anything that will fall of must be removed.
5. Inside the car must have all flammable material (carpet, headliner, rear seat, etc.) removed. Driver-side panel may be left in for protection, or foam padding can be added.
6. Batteries must be removed from engine compartment and securely mounted and covered inside the car.
7. Gas lines must be modified and sagely run through the car.
8. A-arms, ball joints, and tie rods must remain stock.
9. All trailer hitches and braces must be removed.
10. Transmission cooler lines inside of car should be covered.
11. No additional reinforcing of the car is allowed unless specified in rules.
12. Radiator must be in stock location and no reinforcing of radiator support.
13. No tires bigger than 16 inches, no split rimes, and no studded tires. Tire flaps, double tires, and forklift tires are ok (we don’t want flats). Stem protectors are allowed.
14. No alcohol running motors.
15. Cars must have functional brakes.
16. Five bolt lug rear ends only – spider gears may be welded.
17. No bottles, cans, or any garbage in trunk or floors of cars. Cars will be checked at inspection.
18. No water barrels.
Car Building
1. For driver protection, you may weld a bar behind the seat from door post to door post, in can X. You can also have a dash bar – you can connect the back seat bars and the dash bars together with one bar. No more than 5 inches in diameter. You can weld kickers from dash bar to door bar, none of the above can be connected to frame. Roll loop to protect driver is acceptable. No kickers from the dash bar to the frame or from the roll loop to the frame.
2. Bumper switching is ok. Welding shock horns to bumper and frame is allowed – no added iron, angle iron, or pipe in place of shock horns or mounts. May weld bumper directly to the frame. Welding bumpers on is highly recommended. You may weld bumper skins without adding any additional material.
3. Any motor can go in any make car-must be in stock location. Motor mounts must be as close to stock as possible (no adding additional supports).
4. Motor and transmission can be securely mounted, but do not strengthen the frame. Engine cradles can be used. Engine cradles can’t protect the motor or connect to the transmission. No carburetor or distributor protectors are allowed.
5. Only weld on top of frame front of A-arms forward. No welding on the bottom of the frame. No other welding on frame is allowed. The frame seam weld can’t be larger then ½ inch wide.
6. Body mount replacing is allowed. No washers bigger than 5x5 inches, by ¼ “ thick with flat plate metal (no angle iron). No bolts bigger than ¾ inch. Must have 1 inch spacer between body and frame. The body mounts can’t go all the way through the frame (nuts must be inside the frame). The only exception is the radiator support-it can be sucked tight to frame. No additional body mounts.
7. No stuffing or plating of frames.
8. Threaded rod through the hood is ok and can go through the frame only near the radiator support. No rods behind motor by the firewall or next to the motor near the wheel wells. Maximum size of threaded rod is 1 inch. Must be straight up and down, can’t angle towards radiator support. No square tubing or pipe and no kickers. For Chryslers, weld to the top of frame and top 5 inches of radiator support to rod, no more. Or can weld small plate on top of radiator support to run rod through.
9. No threaded rod through trunk.
10. You can weld 4”x4” plates every 12” on the doors, trunk, and end gates (welding doors is recommended for safety). Driver’s door can be welded solid.
11. Hoods must be removable. And must remove them for inspection. May secure in a maximum of eight spots no bigger than 1 inch in diameter. Redi-rod attached to the firewall can’t be long then 12”. Hood washers must be no bigger than 5x5 inches. Hoods can be folded over, but 60% of the hood must be in factory location.
12. Homemade columns and knuckles in steering are allowed.
13. Holes for distributor are allowed. No distributor protectors.
14. Rumble seat in wagons can NOT be welded and must be removed.
15. Do not tie front and back frames together on uni-body cars.
16. Rear coils can be welded, tied, or bolted in. No leafing an old iron coil spring car. New iron (80’s and Newer) cars can leaf their cars. Can have chain around rear end and hump on frame.
17. You may have a max. of 10 leaf springs with two main leaf springs. Leaf springs must be staggered. No flipping the leaf springs. The springs must be from another car (no truck springs). No shackle extensions. You can flip the shackles. You can build 4”x4” shackle boxes. 6 clamps per side. Can have chain around rear end and hump on frame, also, may go from frame to leaf, rear of the axle, 3/8 chain 3/8 cable or no. 9 wire one spot per side.
18. Number 9 wire is allowed. You can tie the bumper to radiator support (2 spots, 4 loops). You can tie the rear frame rails together (2 spots, 4 loops). You are allowed 2 spots with 4 loops of number 9 wire (no cable or chain) in each window opening and may go around the frame.
19. Windshield may be protected with screen and/or 2 bars. One bar is allowed in the back window. Back window bar must attach to roof and down in front of the trunk lid seam.
20. Braced rear ends allowed. 5 Lug rearends only. You are allowed to reinforce trailing arms. May shorten or lengthen trailing arms. Must be stock trailing arms, no homemade.
21. K-members on pinch-frame mopars may remove the body mounts and can suck them tight. No welding frames together.
22. All cars must be stock, unless modification is stated in the rules.
23. If it is not in the rules it does no mean that you can do it! Call if you have nay questions.
24. Y-framer may suck the Y together. No added metal, no welding bottom, must leave space on bottom for inspection. Can put long Y frame bracket along side of frame, or on top of frame, if put on the side do not weld bottom, side and top only. May leave bolts in that were use to suck together, 2 max per side, no welding on side of frame.
25. Suspension can be welded solid for added height.
26. Rust may be patched, same thickness sheet metal only, you are allowed to weld 1 inch past the rust, body only, frames are NOT allowed to be fixed.
27. Bolting – 10 bolts per wheel well, 50 bolts per hood & trunk. 3/8” bolts with 2” washers maximum.
28. No Radi-barrels, roof mounted barrels, or radiators not in stock location. No metal or mesh radiator protectors allowed in front of the fan.
29. NO PROFANITY ON CARS.
30. If a car does not pass inspection or driver is unwilling to change car to pass inspection, there is no refund.

80's and Newer Heat Rules
MIDWEST DEMOLTION DERBY ASSOCIATION., INC.
2011 RULES --- SUBJECT TO CHANGE AT RULES MEETING ON OCTOBER 15, 2011
These rules apply to all events associated with the Midwest Demolition Derby Association, Inc. Rules cannot be reproduced without their consent. All rules must be read and followed by all drivers, pit crews, promoters, judges, wrecker crews, and any person(s) taking part in the derby. Any violation of these rules may disqualify the individual from further participation in the derby.
All cars must be at the derby site at least TWO HOURS prior to the advertised start time of the derby!
Section (A) General Car Rules:
A-1 Any 80's & Newer (77+ newer Fullsize GM, 79+ newer FoMoCo, 80+ newer Mopar), make, or model car may be used except convertibles and all wheel drives. Frame & suspension must be same year, make, and model as body. Any steering sector may be used.
A-2 No additional layering, bracing, bolting, welding, wiring, chaining, etc., of any form may be done to any part of the car other than as specifically outlined in these rules.
Pre-runs evaluated on a case-by-case basis – 2 inches of weld past the bend/tear in frame up to 6 inches, on two sides of the frame, and can only be patched with up to 11 gauge (1/8”) thick metal.
A-3 All carpet, cloth, plastic, glass, headlights, tailgates, grilles, mirrors, chrome, and other such trim must be stripped from inside and outside of the car. This includes third row seats and/or compartment covers in wagons. Interior and trunk must be clean of all broken glass, loose screw, cans, etc. EXCEPTION: Driver’s door panel, kick panel, and b-pillar cover may be left in to protect driver from sharp edges underneath. Foam pads may be added around driver.
A-4 Cooling systems must remain in the stock location in the radiator support (radiator/radiator barrels); no second guessing. Water or antifreeze only. Radiator overflow hoses must vent down, preferably under the car, at least under the hood. Spray foam may be used to secure radiator, but may not be used anywhere else. Roof mounted barrels must be made of metal and must vent under the car. All barrel hoses must be double clamped. Barrels must be securely attached. If using a roof mounted barrel, the car MUST have a brace from the floor or door bar to the roof near the driver. No engine oil coolers. Transmission coolers allowed. Fan blades may be altered or removed. Electric fans are okay.
A-5 Trunk lid/tailgate maybe be secured using either wire, chain, 3/8” bolts w/max 2” washers or 4”x4” plates. Six (6) attachment points maximum (hinges/latches do not count as points). Trunk lid/tailgate cannot be attached to the trunk floor or frame and must be mounted in the stock location.
A-6 Doors must be secured using 4”x4” plates max, wire or chain. You must follow through with welding or chaining each. Six (6) attachment points maximum (hinges/latches do not count). Chains/wires for the doors may be through the roof or around the frame. Hardtops will be allowed to create a single post of chain/wire from the top of the door to the roof on the passenger side. This will not count as one of the locations for the door(s). On the drivers’ side you may weld in a 2” diameter pipe or strap in the same manner.
A-7 HOODS MUST BE OFF OR FULLY OPEN FOR INSPECTION. Car will not be teched with the hood in place. Hood must be secured with hood pins, chain or wire. Six (6) attachment points maximum (hinges count as an attachment point). Hood pins may be made of bolts or pins, no more than ¾” diameter. The front two body mounts may be removed and ¾” ready rod may be used and ran through the frame. No angle iron hood pins allowed. No chain or wire in front of the radiator. Hoods must be cut open in a manner to allow easy access for fire extinguishing: judges’ discretion. Hood must be mounted in the stock location. All washers for hood pins limited to 5”x5” plates.
A-8 Cars must have working brakes capable of stopping the car at the beginning of each heat. If a car loses brakes during the heat it may be DQ’d; judges’ discretion.
A-9 Tires and rims must be street legal DOT approved. No implement tires, studded tires, tire in tire, foam filled: air only. Valve stem protectors and tire flaps are allowed. Spacers between lug nuts & rim are ok.
A-10 Turn-out exhaust headers are allowed.
A-11 Batteries must be removed and placed within the drivers compartment of the car. It is required that they be safely secured and covered. This includes securely tied DOWN, no just secured side-to-side.
A-12 Driver Safety:
• Windshield bars are allowed. Must be vertical with a maximum of two. May be bolted or welded in place, but may not connect to or hold the hood in any way.
• Window bars or nets are allowed on driver’s door. They may be welded or bolted in place and will not count towards an attachment points for the driver’s door (if welded to the rear door, count as an attachment point for the door).
• Door bars are allowed. Pipe must be 2” to 4” in diameter, ¼” wall. End plates must be no more than 6”x6”, ¼” thick. Bar may be welded , chained, or bolted in. If bolted in, exterior plates cannot exceed 6”x6”. Two attachments per side and will not count as points for the door(s). Bar should be placed as close to the back of the driver’s seat as possible and may not attach to the frame. Including both a straight across and a diagonal bar to the driver side rocker panel area is highly recommended (see diagram on the back page). The diagonal helps prevent “blowing out” the driver’s side door pillar from a hard passenger hit.
• Dash bars are allowed. Same dimensions apply as specified for the door bar. Attach in a similar manner. Steering column may be supported by the dash bar (may chain to the dash bar).
• Drivers & Passenger door bars allowed. They are to connect from the seat bar to the dash bar. Same dimensions apply as specified for the dash/door bars.
• Halo bars allowed. Same dimensions apply as specified for the dash/door bars. They are to mount as close to the b-pillar as possible. You can weld a 5”x5” plate to the floor to attach the halo bar to; THEY CANNOT CONNECT TO THE FRAME. You can attach to the roof with bolts of welds, BUT NOT WELDED SOLID TO THE ROOF.
• Door plate(s) allowed on driver’s door. May extend 4” past door seams. Must be flat plate; no I-beam or c-channel. No more than 8” total height (two 4” plates ok for example). These do count as attachment points if welded to the fender/rear door.
A-13 Gas tanks must be boat or race car type tank; seven gallon maximum and must be placed inside the car and firmly secured. Original tank must be removed or have three visible holes at 1” in diameter. No alcohol or methanol fuels allowed. Fuel injected cars with in-tank pumps ; call and we’ll try to work with you.
A-14 Car numbers must be visible from both sides of the car, preferably on the front doors or on a roof plate.
A-15 Any make engine/transmission allowed. Engine must remain in stock-style location forward of the original firewall. Mounts may be homemade and welded in, but may not protect any engine components. Straps may be made from ½” road or 1”x ¼” flat stock. It must come straight sideways of the front of the cylinder head to the top inside corner of the frame. Strap and its weld may not overlap more than 1” of frame and may not cross a seam. If chaining, links may not be welded.
A-16 Any factory rear axle allowed but must be 4 or 5 lug car axle. Must be mounted in stock manner and location. U-joints may not be welded in place, but 2 tack welds may be added to keep u-joints in where injected plastic retainers had been used. Spider gears may be welded and lockers are allowed. Slider shafts are ok. Braced rearends are allowed.
A-17 Suspension and frames must remain stock. All body mounts except radiator support body mounts must remain stock. Bolts may be replaced, but only with 7/16” bolts with 3” washers maximum. No chaining of suspensions. Leaf springs must use stock mounting points. Leaf springs can add one clamp made of one (1) loop of #9 wire or fuel tank strap. No modifications of trailing arms allowed and must be the stock arms. Taller springs may be used within reason; judges’ discretion. Coil spring spacers are allowed for added height. Coil springs may be wired, either on the top or around the rear axle, but not BOTH. You can weld a 3/8” weld on the top frame seam, A-arms forward. All hitches must be removed.
Y-framers may suck the (Y) together. No added metal and no welding on the bottom. You MUST leave space on bottom for inspection and can put the long frame bracket alongside of the frame. You can only weld the TOP only.
A-18 Any car bumper may be used on any car. Bumpers may be welded to the bracket. Bracket may be welded to the frame. Bumper shocks may be drilled, compressed, and welded. No additional filler metal may be added. May swap over shock horns, but only the stock horns. No part of the donor frame may be used! Bumpers must be mounted at the stock height and right-side up. If the bumper is not welded on, bumper chains are mandatory. Chains must not be welded on over frame seams.
